With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend, I’ve teamed up with an incredible beauty brand, L’Occitane, to share five ways I take time to recharge as a mom.
Being a mom is such an incredible joy for me, and my three boys make my life feel so full and happy. But along with all the good, there’s a lot of hard moments. And on top of being a working mom, I can feel very spread thin, which leads to frustration and exhaustion. And basically the combination of all those things can make me… well, not the best mom.
I’m continually learning and trying to find ways to be a better mom, and these are five things I try to do regularly to recharge my mom batteries so I’m happier and enjoy mom life as much as I can. I made a fun little video to share each of my five things!
Spend time outside.
My kids and I are all total homebodies, but we also need time in the great outdoors. We go to the park several times a week, we run around in the backyard, we eat outside, and we take family walks. It’s nothing crazy, but feeling the sun and breathing fresh air recharges me so much.
Make time for things I love.
I’m a creative minded person, and motherhood doesn’t provide a lot of opportunities to be creative in the way my mind needs. So having an outlet of sewing and designing helps me recharge mentally in a big way. Whatever your passion is, let it be in your life in some way so you feel fulfilled on a different level outside of motherhood.
Spend calm and quiet time with my children.
Not all things that recharge my batteries require me to be alone. One thing that helps a ton is being with my kids, but being quiet and calm. We read together, we listen to audiobooks while they build with lego’s, or we lay in the bed and I tickle their back or play with their hair. They have a ton of energy and we love to be loud and silly sometimes, but also helping them calm down and be still helps me feel happy and recharged.
Take care of myself physically.
Last year I went on a month long sugar fast, and I discovered how much my body and mind changed when it wasn’t getting sugar spikes or crashes. I was more alert and focused and had more real energy. I also started working out consistently, and meditating occasionally (although I’m trying to get in the habit of doing it daily), and these made a huge difference in how I felt. Taking time to make sure I feel happy with myself and healthy in my mind and body makes me feel so recharged.
Take time to pamper myself.
Last but certainly not least, I feel so recharged when I take time to pamper myself. Every mom deserves time to take a bath and feel relaxed and calm. L’Occitane has these beautiful Mother’s Day gift boxes that are filled with their high quality oils, lotions, and creams that will instantly make you feel relaxed and recharged. And if you don’t have time for a bath or a night of pampering, their little tubes of hand or foot cream are the perfect thing to toss in your bag and pull out when you just need a moment to recharge.
Grab yourself or your mama or your friends one of these beautiful sets and then write her a little note giving her some ideas on how else to recharge her mom batteries — the ones I’ve listed above, or anything else that works for you!
I’d love if you’d share in the comments things that you do to recharge your mom batteries. I’m always looking for ways, and we can help each other!
Thank you to L’Occitane for partnering on this post
Im not a fan of baths, but I enjoy polishing my nails a different color every Sunday. It’s a small amount of pampering that makes me feel good about starting the work week!
Yes! Manicures are a great way to start your week! Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for your blog, Merrick. I always enjoy your content. I also recently started meditation and I use an app called headspace. It makes it really easy to learn and simple to fit into my day. Maybe you’ll like it too!
That’s what I use too! Love that app. So glad it’s working for you too!
Where is the blue and white striped dress from? It is so cute!
it’s from Abercrombie, but it sold out a few months ago. I’ll keep an eye out for a restock and share on my instagram if it happens! xx
I also have three boys, and now a baby girl. I love the idea of recharging with them and doing quiet and calm things. Thank you for the idea! I really admire your mothering and joy with them, thank you for your example!
Thank you for that sweet comment, Jane! Those quiet moments with them help almost more than anything else. Enjoy those four little angels!
Hi, thanks for sharing this information with us. I’m sure you’re a great mom and mother’s day you get a decent reward and favorite quotes from their loved ones.
For my mother, I always find a good greeting on the website and buy your favorite bouquet of lilies!
