Time for another fun Valentine’s Day project! Last week I shared an easy swing dress you could whip up and for a semi-dressy celebration. Today we’re going completely casual and making this fun glitter XO sweatshirt that’s perfect for the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, and even beyond since it’s not over the top. I’m styling mine with my new favorite faux leather leggings (non-maternity, but great for maternity too!) for a sleek but laid back look, but it would look so cute with skinny jeans and black pumps, or boyfriend jeans and pink heels.
I made mine with this sweatshirt I found in the mens section of Target because I wanted something simple and oversized (and I loved the little zipper detail on the side) but you could use any plain t-shirt or sweatshirt.
Step 2. Using an x-acto knife, cut out your letters. Make sure to save the middle because you’ll need it later!
Step 3. With the shiny side down, iron the freezer paper onto your shirt. If you haven’t done this before, it’s super easy — just press the iron on the paper for a few seconds until it glues to your fabric. Make sure you press all the edges so it’s completely sealed and your paint and fabric won’t bleed.
Also, try on your shirt first and hold the paper up to your chest to determine your placement. Mark with a pin or fabric chalk.
Step 4. Once your paper is in place and completely sealed down, use a sponge brush and dab your gold paint in all the spaces to create the letters. Do two layers, and then sprinkle the glitter over it before it dries.
Step 5. Let the entire thing dry and then use the tip of your brush to carefully dab the glitter with fabric mod podge and seal it in place. Let it completely dry, and you’re done!
