When I was in middle school, I was the doofus that actually wanted braces and glasses. I had this completely ridiculous perception that they were cool, and I was such a loser because I didn’t have either. I actually did have glasses, but since they were only to keep my eyes from getting tired when reading or watching a movie, (and when I did do either of those activities I completely forgot to wear them) they mostly went unworn. FAIL.

I still own a pair of real glasses, but they’re not exactly the cutest, and I’m sure the prescription is out of date — I haven’t worn them in years. But just like in middle school, I’m still completely obsessed with glasses, and happily I’m no longer the minority. Even glasses companies are catching on and selling their glasses with non-prescription lenses (mine are from Firmoo…this style is not available anymore, but there are a few similar ones in their wayfarer section, and Bonlook has a few almost identical pairs in their square framed section!)

I know some people that have just popped the lenses out of old frames and worn their fake glasses that way, but I prefer the non-prescription lenses so as to look as legit as possible. I’m totally one of the cool kids now, right? RIGHT?

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I have braces right now too. They’re just the invisible kind. My eleven year old self would be groveling in my presence, I’m sure.

Aww you look so cute in glasses! I love the subtle mix of stripes & leopard here too…adorable outfit!! πŸ™‚

  2. Liz C says:

    Love this outfit!
I used to want glasses so bad when I was in elementary school! I was so excited when I was blind enough to get them- and so disappointed when I found out I wasn't blind enough to wear them all the time haha!

  3. you are one of the cool kids! i still want braces πŸ™‚

  4. LOVE those pants! They look great with the black + white and leopard print!

  5. I use to put a french fry over my front teeth at dinner when my brother had braces… Apparently I thought they were cool too! lol

  6. I think you have beautiful teeth! But, I have to admit I wanted braces and glasses as a child, too. Now I love Firmoo for my glasses. I also love Warby Parker. Checking out your frames now – they're cute!

  7. Abigail says:

Oh, I've been loving stripes and leopard together! Also, glad I'm not the only one who thought braces and glasses were cool in school!

  8. I felt the same as a kid! The day I got braces is still in the top 5 days of my life. And now I finally need glasses, but only to wear occasionally πŸ™‚

Thanks for the links–I just clicked over to Firmoo and got a free pair of glasses. Well, $10 total with shipping and anti-glare lenses.

  9. what a perfect look – i would wear this of fall πŸ™‚

  10. Kristina says:

Ha I feel the same way whenever I wear my glasses instead of contacts πŸ˜‰

  12. Mrs Gray says:

I scored some "glasses" off Amazon for $6.00. I totally wear them and look legit.

  13. HA! I used to think braces were cool when I was a kid, too, and I always pretended I had them. πŸ˜›
With glasses I didn't have to pretend, though. I've had to wear them since I was 6… and I still LOVE glasses. πŸ™‚

  14. I'm loving that sweater….

  15. Great outfit. Love it. Well you would have loved me in junior hight. I had both glasses and braces and looked like a complete dork. I always secretly wanted braces until I actually got them. But i am happy now that my teeth are straight and i can wear contacts now. Plus glasses now are much more stylish then they were when we were kids.

  16. Kaytee says:

I envy your envy. For the people that have to put on glasses to be able to go pee at 3am, they are medical devices. : ( I'm just glad that they have gained popularity so that I can choose from a ton of cool lenses now-a-days. Silver lining: I can be stylist with an impairment on my face. I do love those frames and will be looking for something just as cool (and in stock) at that website.

  17. An invisalign user here as well. My husband just graduated and is a new orthodontist. So a word of thank you from us. πŸ˜‰

  18. This is soooo cute! Love those pants and stripes with leopard is always great!

  19. Your blog, your style, the outfit….yeesh. all so good!!

  20. Lisa M says:

    What kind of invisible kind?

  21. Love this outfit! It's so classic, and anytime I see stripes with leopard print, it makes me happy. Love the glasses too! I've worn glasses since 3rd grade, so I can relate! Cute ones definitely help πŸ™‚

  22. Rebekah says:

I was the same way growing up! All my friends had glasses and braces and eventually I followed suit!

  23. Kelly says:

Love the outfit! I had braces and glasses but not at the same time. Totally geek-chic!

  24. Lindsay says:

I have never needed glasses, but I was SO EXCITED when Firmoo sent me some to review because I could feel like the cool kid! Unfortunately, they gave me a headache, so I can't wear them anymore.

P.S. You're lucky you can wear Invisalign. I had to have braces put back on for a year and a half, and my teeth were bad enough that they had to be the real metal bracket kind. Not fun when you're 25. πŸ™‚

    • Navya says:

I had to wear the metal bracket kind of braces at 13. Definitely not cool for a teenager trying to impress the most popular boy in class πŸ™‚ I was in tears every day of that grade!!!

  25. Please tell me why you have braces, because your teeth are perfectly straight!
Love the shoe choice! So fab!
New follower! I'd love if you checked me out!

    • You're so nice. My dad's a dentist so I'm more aware of every little move (as is he), and my teeth have moved quite a bit since I got my braces off in high school. So we're just fixing those few little things. Plus, natural light is very forgiving of slightly crooked teeth πŸ™‚

Also, glad to have you following along! xo

  26. You rock a mean frame pretty lady!

  27. Emily says:

I always wanted braces and glasses too! My glasses in middle school were hideous, and I didn't wear them as often as I should have. I just got a new pair from Warby Parker, and I absolutely love them! Plus, they give a pair for every pair you buy!

  28. You look adorable in ANYTHING.

In 2nd grade we all wanted retainers, so we unfolded paperclips and put them on our teeth. They didn't really stay on, and that's probably dangerous, but that's the price you pay to be cool.

  29. Jelli B. says:

Love those shoes. I've got some Crocs in a similar pattern and love how they really put pizazz into any outfit.

  30. Jess says:

Glasses seem great until you have to wear them all the time. Most of the time, no big deal, but when you're doing tasks (like putting Ikea furniture together) that you have to put your head at a strange angle and they start to slip off and the world goes blurry, well…pain. Contacts are great but I take after my dad and can't wear them all the time cause they dry my eyes out and who wants to put drops in all the time. Love that glasses are waaaayyyy more fashionable now though. πŸ™‚

  31. Yasi says:

Stumbled across your blog and love it. Very comfy looking outfit.
I share your sentiments about glasses and braces, and now I have braces; I went through invisalign and my teeth wouldn't budge anymore after 1.5 years so now I have full blown wire braces, just as an fyi, not fun.
