Leather Trim Shoulder Refashion

A few weeks ago we went through Philip’s closet, tossing out all the old and unworn things that he owned. One of those was this long sleeved tee that I bought him a while back that he didn’t love. I, on the other hand, liked it, so it skipped the goodwill pile and went straight to my refashion pile.
I had planned to just lower the neckline and take in the sleeves a bit, but then a little bit of leather trim in my stash caught my eye and I decided to add that on. It took a plain striped tee up a notch and gave it a little bit of edge. I love it!
shirt: old navy (altered by me) // jeans: old navy // shoes: forever 21
Since the shirt was oversized, and the neckline was higher than I liked, I used my “Changing a Neckline” tutorial and brought it down a few inches. Then I used my “T-shirt Skinnification” tutorial to bring in the sleeves and the sides of the shirt.
Then I used Kayla’s super easy tutorial here to attach the leather trim. The only thing I did differently was use my sewing machine (she hand-stitched hers) using these universal needles for leather:

So simple, and adds a fun little edgy element to a simple tee!

  • I recently started following your blog ๐Ÿ™‚ you are an inspiration and you make me realize that I should re work my closet before buying new clothes which is what I was doing before…

  • It looks so much cuter with the leather patches! I would love to add elbow patches in leather to a shirt like this, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • So the leather looks so cute on a t-shirt, I want to do this with my leftover trim! Especially since my sweater won't see much wear now that we are in California! Also, side note…every time you wear those green skinnies I covet them! They look SO cute on you! Xoxoxo

  • Love the shoulder detail. And stripes are always my favorite.

  • I have som faux leather in my stash that I've been considering doing this to a grey tee with. I like the stripes with it though!
