Maxi

Maxi skirts and dresses were one of those trends that I thought I’d never get sucked in to. I don’t know if it was the negative connotation I had with the word “maxi,” or if it was just the fact that a floor length skirt seemed so pioneer to me, but either way I wasn’t a huge fan when these skirts hit the runway.

Then I started seeing people actually wear them, and they looked so soft and comfy, like a big blanket around their legs all day. But they still looked pretty and feminine, and not one bit pioneer-ish!

Oh, and I became good friends with Leanne, who is currently the queen of rocking the maxi skirt, and made me covet every outfit she wore. Seriously, when I have another baby I’m wearing a maxi skirt every day just so I can look like her.

So yesterday I pulled up Leanne’s tutorial and made myself a maxi. It would have taken no time at all except for the full two side seams that I sewed and then had to unpick (without a seam ripper!) because the skirt was like a suction cup to my hips. Cute. I think that’s a pretty clear sign that I need to start working out regularly again…

Oh, and that blanket around the legs all day thing that I mentioned? Totally true. I’m hooked.

That looks really good on you! I'm always sad I can't wear maxi skirts, they do look very comfortable! But unfortunately, I'm short and kind of … curvy so the style doesn't work on me. I'll just have to look at blog pictures then!

  4. Oh I love this! It looks amazing on you. The past picture really shows how comfy it is. I love things that feel like blankets. Skirts/scarves just feel so nice!

I too struggle with a negative connotation with the word "maxi". It's a mental block. Still working on it.

I was against them too at first but just because I don't ever want to look frumpy. But I am loving how people are wearing them lately too!! I plan to get sucked in too! (love how yours turned out!)

Oh this is seriously darling!! And it does look so comfy! I completely agree – I used to think that if I gave in to the maxi that I would either look like an old fat woman in a mumu or like I was expecting, when I wasn't. The more I see them, the more I love them and… the more I wear them! PS. The pic of you and Peanut is the CUTEST thing I have ever seen. You should frame something like this to put in your bookcase!
