Today at church we were released as Gospel Doctrine teachers. We’ve had the calling for just over a year now, and suspected that we would soon be released until we found out that our teaching partners were going on 2 years. Bah. As much as I like teaching, it does get a little tiresome after a while, especially when you ask a question and everyone just sits there, staring at you, waiting for someone else to say something.
Last week I got an email from a member of the Sunday school presidency, thanking us for our hard work as teachers and wondering when he could come pick up our manuals. Not having heard anything about being released, I emailed him back and said he could certainly have our manuals, but “are we released?!!!!!” When I didn’t hear back from him for several days, Philip and I assumed he had realized his mistake and was figuring out how to smooth this over without looking foolish. We got a phone call from him later that week and he spent the whole time backtracking and said he just ASSUMED we were getting released since several new teachers had been called….”but, I still need your manual.”
That was a pretty good tip-off that this Sunday we were getting released. So we’re now officially calling-less. I’ll let you all know what our new and very exciting calling is as soon as we find out.
In the mean time I’m going to spend my Sunday afternoon painting.
You may not think this, but it’s very relaxing and I think there’s nothing better to do on a Sunday than relax while your bacon wrapped chicken cooks in the oven.
Mmm, bacon-wrapped chicken. I haven’t made that in a while. I actually didn’t make dinner tonight because we had huge hamburgers right when we got home from church and then both took three hour naps.
I love that picture of Landen.
Uncle Dave always has said the hardest/worst calling you’ll ever have is the next one you get – in other words enjoy the calling you have and don’t be eager for being released. I…however always look forward to being released, hope the interm between that and the new one is lengthy, then keep my fingers crossed I like my new one! Enjoy your small freedom!! I like to sew on sunday, some may think it’s work but like you with painting, to me it’s enjoyable and relaxing. To each his own 🙂
I had to come back and comment – wow, on this painting, I didn’t realize you’d painted it until I’d read down through some of your older posts I hadn’t seen yet. I thought perhaps you’d just put that picture there to illustrate you painting on Sunday – you are becoming so incredibly good Merrick.
