Today is Part One of Sew and Tell. Because of the overwhelming response, I’ll be doing a few more weeks of features (rather than my original plan of two). I so appreciate every one of you sending your projects in, and hope you’ll enjoy checking out everyone else’s projects!
Ashleigh, from The Simpler Life, found this button up a yard sale (for $1!), and with the help of my button up refashion tutorial, and a few of her own tricks, turned it into a skinnified and flattering blouse! Check out her blog post about it here.
Dresden, from Dresden Carrie, had a cute oatmeal cardigan, and when it got a stain, she refashioned it with a little dye and it’s as good as new (also, now in a gorgeous color!).
Martha, from The Simple Things, used some old unused t-shirts, and some hand-me-down fabric to make herself two new dresses! Don’t you love the lengths she chose? The maxi is my favorite. You can see her blog post about it here.
Danni (or Dindin), of Dindin Does, made this pretty dolman sleeve top after wearing her Forever 21 dolman top to death (a girl after my own heart!). She made her own tutorial, which you can see right here. (also, I have my own dolman sleeve tutorial here, which is fairly similar to hers).
Erin, from Erin Brouillette, shared four of her projects. The first of hers is this cute ruffled t-shirt embellishment. It’s been forever since I’ve done some good t-shirt embellishing, so it was fun to see her take on it! You can see her post about it here.
Erin’s second project was this cool felt camera battery pack she made for her man. Check out her post about it here.
Erin made these fun little wooden boards as a gift. I love the gray paint against the woodgrain! See her post about it here.
Erin’s final project was this cool flannel plaid tie. So simple, and so masculine chic! You can see her post about it here.
Kimberly, from Parish Bailey, used my skinny jean refashion to skinnify an old pair of cords. Great job — they look awesome! You can see her post about it here.
Next Friday I’ll be featuring another ten refashions.
But for now, what was your favorite project from this first batch??

I think they're all great, but I really love Martha's dresses and the dolman top.
Happy Friday!
I love the dress idea. I've done it with tank tops, but always have to wear a cardigan with them to work. A tee would prevent that.
I have an oatmeal cardigan that is unfortunately stained up from a rouge pen… maybe this is a good solution! Thanks for sharing all of these great projects.
My favorites are Martha's dresses and Kimberly's skinnified cords! I'm wearing cords at this very moment that could use some skinnification.
The tie is great! I made a tie for my husband once (really refashioned one; made a regular tie into a skinny one) and he wears it all. the. time., even in our incredibly casual town! He'd maybe put up with plaid, right…? haha
Thanks Merrick for using my tutorial! I was so excited when I saw it in my blog feed.
what a fabulous friday surprise to be featured today! thanks merrick =] hope you are loving on your new little one*
oh my gosh I love the dyed cardigan! and making the t-shirts into dresses. genius!!
that maxi dress is stunning!
LOVE Martha's dresses! Those are wonderful.
I love the dyed cardigan, too. Makes me think of all the things I can amp up a little.
Thank you so much for featuring me on your awesome blog! I'm honored. 🙂
I loved them all, but especially the dyed cardigan and the t-shirt dress tutorial.
I love the dresses! I have made a similar one following a tutorial. I also just skinnified some jeans. I have a hard time finding skinnies as i am a size 16 and have really muscular calves (the combination makes it extremely difficult!) Thanks for all your awesome posts!
They are all great tutorials, so smart and easy to do. My favorite would be Dresden Carrie's cardigan project. I agree, the new color is so fab!
Hi guys! My blog's name has been changed from The Simpler Life to The Preppy Little Polka Dot for those of you who were wondering.
