Happy New Year!!

Last week I shared a post on how to help your family set goals for the new year (check out the post here if you’d like — it includes a free printable of the chart we use!).

Setting goals is really important for me, and although I’m not great at achieving all of them every year, or even checking in on them regularly, I feel like it sets the entire tone for my year. And writing them down helps me have them in the back of my head throughout the year, and set up better habits to help me achieve them, so usually by the end of the year I look back and realize that I did achieve a lot of them without really being conscious of them.

These aren’t all of my goals, but here are four of my big ones for this year.

1. Re-learn how to play the piano

I took piano lessons for YEARS when I was younger. I think I started when I was six and then took them until I was fourteen. Now I can hardly play anything. B is taking lessons now and it’s making me want to pick it back up. I’m determined to make time each Sunday to sit down and play through some stuff and get this skill back.

2. Phone away for the night everyday by 8pm

Pretty much every night we put the kids to bed and then I go sit and stare at my phone for at least an hour. It’s mindless and stupid, and it takes away from time I could have with Philip. So I’m going to turn it off each night after the kids go to bed and not touch it again until morning. We’ll see how I do.

4. Keep a gratitude journal

I’m not great at journaling, but I want to get better. I got myself the Five Minute Journal and I’m going to try to use it at least once a week. I think once a day is setting myself up for failure…but I think I can do once a week!

My 2018 Goals

Happy New Year!!

Yesterday I shared a post on how to help your family set goals for the new year (check out the post here if you’d like — it includes a free printable of the chart we use!).

Setting goals is really important for me, and I feel like writing them out sets the entire tone for my year. I’ve spent the last few weeks thinking about mine, and today I want to share a couple of them.

3. Run a 5K every week.

In the last six months I’ve started running again (after years of not), and I’m currently running right around 2 miles three times a week. My goal is to make one of those runs a full 5K.

4. Keep a gratitude journal

I’m not great at journaling, but I want to get better. I got myself the Five Minute Journal and I’m going to try to use it at least once a week. I think once a day is setting myself up for failure…but I think I can do once a week!

Elisabeth (who is almost 5) set the goal to learn to read this year. As for myself, i need to be on my phone less. So i have a 60 min limit for the entire day. I’ve also been thinking a lot about sacrifice. Am and willing to sacrifice more often for the greater good? I’m goiNg to try.
The thing that has Helped me most witH pIano is Being willing to sub in Primary on occasion. They are super forgiving and repeat things ofteN so i get a lot of practice. Wait to do this until you are ready, but its helped me a lot.

When i stare at my phone After putting the kids down i call it “intRoverting.” Im trying to switch it from my phone to a book but honestly i need that time to recharge from Having small people hang on me all day!

I really cant beleive you Think you dont have time to Journal every day–you can do it. You have been given so many blessings and not to make time for GRATITUDE every day really defeats the purpose of it, right??. How about put your phone down at 7:55 pm and journal for those 5 minutes?? Really hope this comes accross as encoueaging as it is meant to be!

Love your list! My goals include sewing my first ever dress… your blog has inspired me! Read more books, for leisure (just graduated from an intense masters program, ready to read something other than a text book!). After reading your list I have decided to add re-learning the piano to my list, too! I have missed playing it so much and it is something I really enjoyed doing. Hope you and your family have a blessed 2018!

Hi!! I was just wondering where your blue journal is from? I love that it looks like you can easily change out the journals, yet have a nice uniformed covered.

Check out Hoffman Academy for you and your son For piano help. You could probably even have Your Younger son start playing around with the help of their videos too.

Any goal is feasible if well planned. I recommend trying the iSmart.Life app. I use this app to planning my goals, tasks, projects. This is a very simple and free web app. Has many useful features: goals, projects, budgets, notes, reports, etc You can see the demo and decide whether it suits you or not…

Hey. I also have a huge financial essay project that should be ready in three days. The result of my work is important to me. For help, I turned to https://getfinanceessay.com/ . Since they specialize in this area. I’ve never used an essay service before, but I’m 100 percent sure in this service. It’s a great solution for students who can’t do it on their own.
