[cardigan: target (gift), top: gap, belt: cozy, jeans: abercrombie (altered to skinnies), sandals: target, earrings: claires, watch: DKNY]

Have you ever heard that story about Jane and Jill where the parents say how smart Jane is and how pretty Jill is, and all Jane hears is that she’s not pretty, and all Jill hears is that she’s not smart. Well, we had a little version of that in our family growing up…the kind that is meant in good fun, but has scarred me for life. When talking about the shapes of our faces, my parents would say “This is Janssen,” and then they would shape their hands into a nice tall oval. Then they would turn that oval horizontally and say, “and this is Merrick,” and then they’d shrink that hand shape into a teeny tiny circle and say, “this is Landen.”

So yes, that’s me. The pumpkin head. It’s one of those things that as I get older I know is not true, but I cannot, for the life of me, get it out of my head. And thus, I avoid big stud earrings because I feel like it makes my already wiiiiiiiide face look even wider. But today I’m wearing these earrings because they’re the ones I got for my sister’s wedding and they need to be worn more than just once. And because they looked good with my outfit. And because I am nothing but generous and kind to you readers who I know wanted me to wear some big earrings today.

Ah, lousy parenting raising its ugly head yet again.

Good thing you all turned out beautiful despite us!

You look great with those earrings! No pumpkin head! I love that your doing this challenge!

  3. I'm terrified of giving my kids some sort of complex. Of course we don't intend for that to happen, but you never know how they will take things. I try not to refer to Abby as shy because I don't want her to use that as a shield.

I think the shape of your face is just lovely! 🙂 And, I love me a big earring!

I would never have thought you had a pumpkin head. It's a very normal and lovely head.

#1- I want you to dress me every day

#2- I want you to tell me how you made your jeans into skinny jeans (or refer me to an online tutorial?)

#3- My skirt you said you liked is from Down East. I love it. It's super cozy. It's got big pockets in front. You should get it.

We parents do the best we can. We make (made) mistakes. You have a perfectly beautiful face.

  8. Jamie says:

If you ever take up personal styling, will you please let me know? =) You look fabulous!!

  9. The Packards says:

Merrick…omg you are just so so pretty! Does Philip know how lucky he is?? 🙂

  10. Tara says:

Hey, your watch looks a lot like mine except that mine has daisys on the face of it. Now I feel like it is double cute because Merrick has one kinda like it and she is stylin.

  11. Bahahahahaaaa! Pumpkin Face! Hahahaaa That is the funniest thing I have read in a while- seriously. got a little chuckle out of me. Mostly because I have NEVER thought of your face being "pumpkiny?" Ha. You should wear studs all the time. they are cute! Actually it is all I wear anymore…fun, bulky ones 🙂 Am I going to see you at Blake's wedding? PLEASE SAY YES so Addie can meet her 2nd cousin!! She will love him! Actually she will probably run the other way because she is shy. There I go stereotyping my kids. Addie is sweet, sassy and shy and Kins is outgoing, emotional, dramatic and friendly to all and well, a bit of a pill 🙂 LOVE THEM BOTH THO!
