Over the weekend, I did my semi-annual closet swap — all the winter clothes out, all the summer clothes in. This has always been my favorite thing to do (I’ve done it since I was probably ten) because it’s like getting a whole new set of clothes twice a year. All those summer clothes I haven’t seen in months are suddenly filling my closet and making me happy, and all those thick sweaters and scarves aren’t taking up room and making me frustrated with my closet. Happiness all around.
Along with the closet swap, I did some reorganizing. When we got married, Philip requested that our closet be organized by color. We’ve kept it that way for five years, all the hanging clothes mixed together in rainbow order. After years of losing many of my shirts between his larger shirts, and dealing with his longer sleeves hanging over into my drawers below, I split our clothes up — mine on the left, his on the right. I also grouped my cardigans, my blazers, my fancy tops, and then the rest of my shirts (still organized by color in their individual groupings). Why I didn’t do this years ago, I don’t know. But being able to see all my shirts at once and knowing exactly what I have, is bliss. Pure bliss.
In fact, that’s how I came across this floral empire waist top, which I haven’t seen in quite a while. It was good to see it again after all those months.

A few weeks ago, I posted about elevating an outfit. Here are my second and third personal tips, as it relates to this outfit.
Tip #2: Add a belt
- the variety of belts out there is limitless, as are the ways you can tie them. I love the definition they add to a silhouette, and, you know…elevate a simple outfit.
Tip #3: Add heels
- It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing (maybe with the exception of sweats and an XXL tshirt), putting on a pair of heels makes you feel great. Whenever we go out to a nicer dinner, or to an event, I wear heels. It just makes me stand taller, feel prettier, and it helps dress up my outfit a bit. For this outfit, a simple pair of wedges does the trick while keeping it from being too dressy.
You always have such cute outfits. Great tips about adding a belt and some cute wedges!
These are some tried and true tips that work for anyone. Well done! And congrats on the closet organizing. It is so tedious, but so worth it when it's all said and done!
I love everything about this outfit!!! So cute!

Ha! I could never have my hub's clothes mingling with mine. In one of our homes we had two separate closets, which was great because mine was all organized w/ only my stuff- and his was a mess with most of it on the floor. Then I could shut the door and leave him to live in his own mess, which he is perfectly happy doing.
Cute outfit! The belt totally transforms that top.

I'm a huge fan of belts…I belt everything! I used to have a seasonal closet but now I realized I wear a lot of summer clothes in winter and vice versa. So now I just keep everything in my closet at all times 🙂

You look really lovely. The heels & belt are perfect touches.
Also I am a terrible sharer, I would never be able to handle 5 years in the same closet as a boy. Good for you for lasting that long 😉
You look so pretty! I love the print on this top. The belt definitely elevates the outfit. 🙂
Oh my. I cannot believe yours and Philip's clothes were together this whole time. That sounds like massive chaos. Even just READING about how you separated your clothes brought peace back to my soul haha.
I love this outfit! You are right a belt does make a big difference. I just figured that out and I wear one all the time now 🙂
