Doctors and Hemlines

On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Philip goes to play basketball. He’s usually gone for a few hours, which means I have time to sew, write blogs, edit photos, etc. When he came home after forty minutes on Tuesday, I knew something was wrong. The ridiculous hobbling through the door was a pretty good clue too.  Rolled ankle.
When he couldn’t even put pressure on it the next morning, I forced him to go to the doctor. Nearly two hours later (because of the very  nice, but VERY chatty doctor), we discovered that it wasn’t broken, but just severely sprained. Ten days in a brace, a few pain killers, and he should be good to go. Last summer, I fractured my foot, which was one of about thirty various doctors appointments over the course of four months. 
Here’s hoping we don’t follow that trend this year.

This shirt has several rows of elastic along the hemline, and I’m seriously considering taking it out so it doesn’t bunch up around my waist during the day/make me look like I have a tire around my waist. I need some opinions…take out the elastic? Or leave it?

    Hope he starts healing up quickly! I didn't even notice the elastic until I read it…It would probably drive me nuts too…

    I didn't notice the elastic, either, but I'd probably remove it just because it would drive me bonkers.

    The print on that top is so pretty! I also didn't notice the elastic from the photos, but take it out if it will make you crazy. Hope Phillip's ankle heals quickly!

    Doug had a terrible sprain last year. It took him several months before it started feeling normal and about a year until it felt normal playing sports. Learning some of the physical therapy exercises and stretches helped a lot, but what helped the most was having a DO doctor do OMM (Osteo Manipulative Medicine) on his foot. Just FYI in case Philip's ankle doesn't feel as nice as he would like in a few weeks.

    And I'd definitely take out the elastic. That shirt is seriously awesome.

    Ack, this reminds me of the horrible incident with Bart and Basketball when you guys visited last spring. Glad it's not broken!

    Take it out. Whoever started that style should have to wear it all day everyday for the rest of their lives. Hate.It.

    Yikes! A rolled ankle is no fun! I hope he heals soon. As for the hemline I would take it out. It's no fun tugging and rearranging clothing all day long!

  9. Troy has done that a couple times too. Basketball can be so dangerous haha! Hope his foot heals quickly!

    One – I had a stress fracture in high school in the exact same bone as you, except the boot I wore was much more heavy-duty. So glad those days are over!

    Two – I LOVE that top! The print and colors are so fun!

    Three – remove the elastic. I don't know why someone decided elastic at the hemline would be a good idea. I hate shirts that have them. And if it bugs you? Take them out.

  12. If i had the skills to remove elastic from hemlines, I would do it ALL THE TIME. They do not work well with my wide hips and it drives me nuts. I hope Philip heals well!

    Oh no! Poor hubby! Hope he is all patched up soon.
    I like the pattern on the shirt a lot. I had one with similar rushing on the sides and took it out. I like it much better now. I'd say go for it.

    I love the top print, but I agree with everyone – take the elastic out! I hope your hubby is feeling better on his ankle soon!

    We had to forgo basketball nights after a few injures. The last one was a break. Jut not worth it. As far as the elastic in the shirt. If its me and it bugs me… then I don't wear it. So if you think you'll wear it more than take it out.

    If you take it out, will you tell those of us who are dumb (OK, maybe just me?) how you did it and how it turned out? I have a few tops like this that I'd love to do it to, but I have no idea how…

    You look so pretty! I love the print on that shirt, but I totally know how you feel about it riding up. Shirts do that to me as well. If you happen to take the elastic out, let me know how you do it. too many times I pass by shirts like this in stores and I just WISH it wasn't bunched up around the bottom 🙁

    I would also remove the elastic, and would look forward to a tutorial – all my shirts like this I can only stand to wear with highwaisted bottoms

    I hope Philip's ankle is better by now. Advice from "experienced" Mom – hang on to that brace. He made need to use it once in a while.

    I'd take the elastic out. If it is too blousy, you can take it in.
