about me

A few years ago, after I got married, I started a blog cause what else did married people do back in 2007? It started as a place to post my art and share my deep thoughts, but then I realized I don't have many deep or interesting thoughts....so I started fashion blogging. And from there it has morphed to include sewing, refashioning, and also tidbits about my family life.

Many of my outfits include something that I've sewn or refashioned, and most of those items have been or will be made into a tutorial. I started sewing when I was eleven or twelve, and although polar tech vests and elastic waisted pants really did it for me back then, I prefer pleated skirtsdolman sleeved tops, or skinnified pastel trousers a bit more these days.

My wonderful husband of six and a half years is Philip, our three-year-old is Peanut (hopefully you realize that's not his real name. I'm not trying to be that much like Gywneth Paltrow), and baby #2 is Buck.

If you stopped by my house during the day you'd find me sewing, picking outfits, cooking, online window shopping, or reading to my boys. Any and all of these subjects may intermittently make an appearance on my blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Hello Merrick!

I discovered your blog a couple days ago and i
absolutely love it!!! I used to sew a lot with my
grandmother (or Nana as i called her) when i
was much younger. Unfortunately she died
almost ten years ago and my love of sewing
died with it. Upon seeing your tutorials and
refashioning i have become inspired to pick
up my love of sewing and am determined to
make that maxi skirt! I just wanted to thank
you for inspiring me and for having such a
great blog. Keep up the good work and
congratulations on the new baby boy to come! :]

  5. Hi Merrick!! I found your blog through Pinterest, and I'm so glad I did!! I LOVE your blog. We have a lot in common..I am 16 weeks pregnant, so I have especially enjoyed reading about your pregnancy & "Peanut" (funny story: I thought that was a "code" name for him, but then I saw a Christmas announcement that had Peanut...haha it really threw me for a loop...I even showed my husband, like, "look, this girl named her baby Peanut" he said, "i like that better than willow" lol...we are in the baby name discussion stage & he doesn't like my pick of willow for a girl!!!). Anyways, you've really inspired me, so thank you!!! Can't wait to see pictures of your new baby!

  6. I have just discovered your blog via Audrey @ Putting Me Together. I am IN. LOVE. with your cute, modest style and crafting skills. I just have 1 question. How do you mark your alterations while you are wearing something? I really want to alter a few things that I own but I just don't know how to do it by myself.
I also can't wait to make those initial pillows that your made for your little guys (and I had fun guessing what their real names are. My guesses are Ben and Finn)

PS. I just started a blog and my lil' gal is known as Peanut as well.

  7. Liz,

Thanks for your nice comment! When I'm altering something I usually use a similar piece of clothing that fits correctly and use that as a guide, or I put the item on and pin it, or pinch it to see how much fabric I need to take in (and then pin it once I take it off). Then once I've made the alteration seam, I try it back on and make sure it looks right before I cut off the extra fabric.

    Good luck!

  9. Hi, Merrick! I found your blog through Pinterest and, although I don't sew, I'd really like to learn one day. The "Pinner" said your blog was great for newbies. When I do start to sew (one day) I'll be keeping up with your blog. Just to make sure I don't forget, I'm following you via GFC. Come visit me at my place. I'd love to have you over! LOVD tidings, Lilly
