Here’s something you may not know about me: I’m not a huge shopper. Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t like to shop, because I do. It just means that I really try to limit myself so I don’t just go out and blow tons of money on clothes that I won’t care about in two months. Because here’s another piece of info about me — I get bored of my clothes pretty quickly.

So here’s my secret. I go through my closet every four or five months and pull out everything that I haven’t worn in at least six months (and have no desire to wear in the next six months), and instead of throwing it away or donating it, I put it in my repair bin until I receive some awesome inspiration as to how to make it lovable again. Sometimes that means cutting it up and making it into leg warmers and an infinity scarf, other times it means just adding some embellishments, or making the sleeves more fitted, or the hem a few inches higher.

In this case, it meant cutting off the big ruffly sleeves that made me look like a linebacker and sewing them onto the front to make a pretty feminine embellishment:

It went from a shirt that I never wore to one that I love and will wear often. And it didn’t cost me a thing.

…although these did:
Sometimes I can’t help myself.

Merrick, you could make an income off of "remodelling" clothes for people. Your top to darling. And, the shoes are classic. They are so cute. Hope they're comfortable. PS: I'm sorry for that long email, but you really did help. Yes, my daughter has had "bouts", too, but she never said anything.

  4. Brit says:

I'm impressed AND in love!! Both the shirt and the wedges are seriously darling!! I'm really glad you posted this – definitely makes me think about the love that some of my less-popular closet items could benefit from!

  5. Just Jaime says:

I love the ruffles. What a great color too!

  6. Jenn says:

Wow! That's some crazy skills you have! The shirt looks great. Oh, and I saw those wedges at Target the other day and tried them on for two seconds before I had to go. How do you like them? Are them comfy?

  7. super impressive!

I really should do the same post-babe.

I have been eying and eying and eying those same wedges! You wear them well and I am very jeal.

  8. 1. I love you hair!
    2. You make me want to learn how to sew so badly. I love reading your blog 🙂

  9. Lizette says:

How did you sew the ruffles on?

  10. Lizette:

I just pinned them in place and then did a straight seam down each ruffle (on the raw edge I'd cut off) to secure them in place. Super easy!
