Long Lost

I’m sorry it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. Philip and I went on a cruise, and we had a wonderful time, thanks for asking! Our trip pictures are on our other computer, so I’ll put some of those up later. For now, I’d like to show you some of my portraits. All of these are from my high school years, and now looking back at them I realize how little I knew. There are lots of mistakes, which I won’t point out cause then you won’t be able to stop staring at them. But I’ve decided that these are my learning years, and I should be willing to make mistakes and take risks so I can learn as much as I can here and make great paintings in the future…blah blah blah. Sorry. Moving on.

I think this was the first family member portrait that I every did. Sorry Janssen, the oldest is always the experiment, right? Well I ended up drawing a portrait of her husband, Bart, for their wedding and then touched up this portrait of Janssen. However, it still has quite a few mistakes. I’m learning.

I’m not sure which order these all went in, but I went on in the next year or so to draw portraits of me, my little sister, and my little brother.

For some reason I never drew a picture of my other little brother, Crawford. Sorry, bud. Maybe now that I’m better I’ll go back and do portraits of everyone again. That might be a good painting project! The ideas are flowing now…

Oh, and if you’re interested, here’s the picture of Bart that I drew:

  1. Hey Merrick I got to your blog from Janssen’s. Wow these portraits are amazing!!!! I love one of Landon, holy cow. I would love to see some recent work if you think these were only learning years, they look so professional to me! What is your art destination goal? Portraits?

  2. Never mind, all I had to do was to scroll down. Oh my goodness, that picture of Linda looks like a photograph. You are amazingly talented!!!!!!!!
