The new rust colored Merrick White Collection dress is here and it’s perfect for fall! Here are four ways to wear it now and into cooler weather.
The perfect transition to fall rust midi dress
If you’re itching for fall, we just released a brand new Merrick White Collection dress that’s the perfect summer transition dress.
It’s a gorgeous rust color that will look amazing with layers and fall colors in the coming weeks and months, but also it’s short sleeved and lightweight so it’s great for wearing now while it’s still hot.
My favorite things about this dress
I wanted to show you a few ways to wear it, but first, here are a few amazing things about it:
- It’s machine washable – hello, mom friendly!
- The front buttons are fully functional so it’s super breastfeeding friendly
- This one is similar to our previous olive green dress, but it doesn’t have pockets so you don’t have to worry about extra bulk at your hips if that was issue you for you before.
- The sizing has been adjusted so this dress is true to size. I’m wearing a size XS.
- It’s buttery soft material
- The fabric is slightly thick, but still lightweight so it’s super breathable but won’t be sheer or show every lump and bump.
- The longer short sleeve is so good for fall and doesn’t feel quite so summery
Now here’s four ways to wear this new rust dress
1. Swap out the tie and wear a shirt or jacket around your waist
I love wearing a shirt or jacket tied around my waist. You could do it with a denim jacket, like I did, or a plaid shirt in the fall, or a chambray shirt, or a striped long sleeve t-shirt.
Throw on a cute baseball hat and sandals or sneakers, and you have the perfect mom outfit for the day.
And of course, you could easily just keep the tie on the dress instead of tying something around your waist.

2. Wear this rust dress to work with a blazer
I’m freaking obsessed with this outfit. This blazer is so pretty and the cut is gorgeous. Also I love orange and navy together – they’re a match made in heaven.
You could definitely do this outfit with heels, but I chose some oxfords. Loafers would also be a good choice!
3. Toss a cardigan over the top for a cozy day at home
Long cardigans with long dresses are usually not my favorite because they create a “tube” body shape in the back, but I couldn’t pass up a chance to pair these fall colors together. As long as the waist is defined in the front, it can work!
I threw on some rich brown slides, but this is probably an outfit I’d wear at home during the cooler months.
4. Swap out the tie and add a belt
If you want to dress up this dress a little bit, add a leather belt instead of the fabric waist tie. It elevates the outfit and adds some structure.
You could do it with boots in the fall, but heeled sandals in the summer would be great — that’s what I wore to church this past week (you can see that outfit here).
