I promised my sister yesterday that I would post something since I haven’t in weeks and weeks. To be honest I have had absolutely no time, and yesterday turned out to be just the same. But don’t worry – I have two cool paintings that I worked on all day yesterday that I will soon be posting on here. The two paintings are from a series that I’m working on right now of portraits and I think I’ve finally finished the one of my little sister. But as I type that I think of all the things that are still unfinished. Maybe one more good go at it will do the trick. I’ve been working on it for like 6 weeks though, so I’m sort of ready to be done. Then yesterday I finally put some color on my older sister’s project and I’m so excited about it. I feel like I’m getting the hang of painting the figure – at least the head. It’s not done, so as soon as it is (hopefully next week) I’ll put it up here.

In the mean time you have to suffer through these stupid gouache paintings that I made for my illustration class. I’ve never worked with gouache, and I’m not an illustration major, so I’m sort of painting with a studio artist’s perspective and apparently it’s all wrong. ALL WRONG. Thank you, teacher. Maybe after I rework them I’ll post them back up here so you can see Before/After. I’m sure you’re holding your breath in anticipation.

Project #1 is “Birthday Still-life” — a still life of items to make a birthday cake, I’m sure you gathered that.

Project #2 is “Palestinian Peep” — we had to pick a nursery rhyme and then change the dress of the characters to be a different time period. Since Peep is a shepherd, I painted her in a traditional palestinian robe.

I’ll really try to post nicer paintings next time.

Hey, that shepherdess is Clairen! She’s so cute!

Merrick, I love your pictures! Of course it does help that Peep is the spitting image of Clairen. Do you ever consider selling your paintings?
