The Bridge Academy is all about teaching the correct steps to being a good artist. One of the ways they do that is by holding you back from certain things until you’re ready. When I started the program, I had to be in the drawing program and couldn’t even draw value (shading) until I had proved to the teachers that I could see and draw the outline of the model accurately.
Then, as you know, I eventually progressed until I graduated to the painting program. But still once I started that program, I was only allowed to paint with one color. It’s all about baby steps.
Well now that enough of us are moving forward, they have added a color theory class. We’re learning about the basics of color, how to tell stories with color, how different colors work together, etc.
Last night was the first night of Color Theory class. After talking about color for nearly two hours, we finally set up the model and got to work, incorporating what we had learned.
I will never stop being amazed at how much better my art is when I go through the proper learning steps. I’m not saying this painting is amazing, but I don’t think I ever would have been able to produce a piece like this a year ago. I just didn’t have he right training under my belt (even after three years at BYU).
We only had an hour to work on this, so we’ll finish it up next week. We’ll see how it turns out!
I like that you have a category in this blog called Progress. What a great definition of one's life. It's exciting to see how The Bridge is preparing you for the future. Beautiful work.
Sounds like this school is being well worth your time! I'm amazed at what you do.
beautiful. I know what you mean about the training at byu…funny thing is, i found that i grew as an artist by leaps and bounds when i started NOT focusing on my art and doing art therapy…it was my missing piece. 🙂 but you, my friend, are so talented!
That is phenomenal! Do you sell portraits and such?
Ashley: yes I do sell portraits! If you are interested, I'd love to talk to you more about it. Email me at [email protected].
Thanks!
Don't worry, we are hermits too. 🙂 The singles ward is great but I am getting kind of antzy to get back to a married or family ward. I actually know Whit from my freshman year of college in the dorms. We had mutual friends and met from there. She's great. You both are talented artists, by the way. Your work is phenomenal.
Beautiful my dear. Love seeing your work and pregnancy pictures! Hooray for baby White!
