As the weather warms up, layers become more difficult to wear because it’s just too hot. But the thing about layers is that they give dimension and added interest to an outfit. So tying a tee around your waist is a great option for adding that layer without really any extra heat or bulk.
I love to do it with either a striped tee, like this one, or a lightweight button down shirt like I wore here.
For the tee, just fold down the neckline a couple of inches, and then wear the folded side facing in. If your tee is lightweight, it won’t add any bulk to your back. Also an easy trick to keep it from sliding around or falling down is to double knot the sleeves in the front!
For a button down shirt, unbutton the shirt and fold the collar and shoulders down, but this time tie it around your waist with the folded side facing out. And again, double knot those sleeves in front so they stay in place.
I love this easy layering with skirts and shorts during the summer, with boyfriend jeans for a laid back look, or with a chunky sweater and skinny jeans. There are lots of ways to wear it, so experiment with the tees and shirts you have in your closet!
