The sneaker trend was basically the best thing that has happened to motherhood, ever. As much as I love wearing heels and boots and even flats, sneakers are just the absolute best mom shoe. They’re insanely comfortable, you can run and play and jump and chase after small children in them, they don’t hurt your feet…they’re just so great. And even for those of you who don’t have babies, they are great for weekends, running errands, talking walks, and basically everything else.

The point is, if you don’t own a pair of sneakers (and I’m not talking shoes that you wear to go jogging), it’s time to get a pair.

There are a lot of different sneakers out there, and it can be hard to decide which ones to buy, or once you buy them, how to wear them.

I’ll be sharing a post soon about all the different styles of sneakers and how to wear each of them, but for now let’s talk about athletic sneakers. They’re probably the hardest sneakers for me to style, but are the most comfortable of all.

I wore my sneakers with a basic layered look — jeans and a sweater with a tee underneath. You want to keep your outfit dressed down, since athletic sneakers will look out of place if your outfit is dressier. Stick to tees and sweaters, rather than blouses.

And when buying a pair, choose a pair that’s slim and flattering. Some running shoes get significantly wider in the front half of the shoe and have a stubby, rounded toe, making the shoes look bulky and your feet look bigger. Compare this thin shoe to this wider one (compare the views of the top of the shoe). See how the first one is much thinner and longer, and the second one is shorter and rounder? Stick to thin shoes that will give you that same elongating effect as pointed flats and heels.

And when it comes to buying them, you can find them at pretty much any shoe retailer out there. Nordstrom is always one of my favorites. But for name brand athletic shoes, Amazon and Nordstrom Rack are two of the best places to buy the best name brand shoes at discounted prices. I love these pink Nike’s and these two toned New Balance sneakers.

My sisters are sharing their favorite momiform shoes today too — go check them out here here and here!
