Two Traditions When Staying In On New Year’s Eve

For the last few years, we’ve stayed in for New Year’s Eve. I love dressing up, but I also love cozying up at home and developing some fun family traditions. Two of my favorites revolve around food!

First, fondue. We make a cheese fondue for dinner and put together a big spread of dippings — bread, apples, pretzels, raw veggies, meat, etc. Then for dessert, we make a chocolate fondue and dip fruit, marshmallows, pretzels, and anything else we can find. It’s a fun tradition that’s pretty easy to pull together (even at the last minute), and everyone always has fun. And don’t forget — if you drop your food into the fondue pot, you have to kiss the person next to you! 😉

My next favorite food tradition is French sodas. It’s an easy recipe — ice, soda water, flavored syrup, and a splash half and half.

Since it’s usually just our family, I like to stick with a casual outfit, but something a little festive. The second I saw these glitter sneakers, I knew I had to have them. They’re perfect for NYE and would be so fun with a little black dress, but are also super comfy with an oversized chunky sweater, black jeans, and a cute striped tee. And I love that they’re not blatantly holiday style so you can wear them all year long.

Nordstrom has a few other fun glittery pieces that would be perfect for New Year’s Eve. I’ve linked all my favorites in the widget below!

Love this post! Two questions if you ever have a chance to respond…
    1) Will you be sharing your favorite cheese fondue recipe? I love reading people’s fave recipes!
    2) Do you ever have trouble staying up late (even for New Year’s Eve!) with a baby? I’m always so very tired that it has become hard to even be super festive like I used to be.

    • I’m trying to remember which one we used last year, because it was incredible! I’ll keep hunting…but this one is similar: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/13714/cheese-fondue/

And I stay up late pretty much every night working, so staying up isn’t a problem. But we celebrate on New York time with our kids, watching the ball drop in Times Square, and then putting them to bed. I like to start the new year right, and being exhausted isn’t the best way, so celebrate at 9pm and then go to bed 😉 xo

Do you have a favorite fondue pot?

    • We got this one for our wedding 10 years ago and it’s served us well all these years — definitely recommend it! http://bit.ly/2idI8iv
