During the hot summer months, neon is one of my favorite shades to wear. It’s not like I want to give the sun any competition or anything, but pieces that are bright pink, green, yellow, or blue can feel so fresh, summery, and fun. However, you probably don’t want to look like a walking highlighter, so try these tips for wearing these fun, bright shades appropriately.
- Start with small doses. If you’re nervous about it, start small. Go for neon nails, a neon belt, or a piece of jewelry with neon stones.
- Pair with neutrals. Like I talked about in this post with my neon red top, wear nude or neutral shoes so you’re not head to toe neon. Denim is also a perfect and super easy neutral that will tone down a neon top.
- Keep your look cohesive. A bright pink lip, or a little colorfully beaded (but still neutral) sandal, is a good way to keep your entire look working together.
- Color block. Sometimes a patterned top or dress paired with a neon bag can look a little too loud and busy, so try wearing solid brights, like I’ve done here. The two bright colors compliment each other and work together, rather than competing.
Also, on another note, I always love hearing about companies that give back, and Buyamba is a fantastic one that I recently learned about. They make these gorgeous gladiator sandals I’m wearing, using beads that are handmade by women in Uganda. You can learn more about their story and mission here, and see their entire collection here.
