By the time you’re having your third baby, you’ve had so many baby showers and have everything that you need or want for the baby, so why not just have a night to celebrate the mama? That was my train of thought when I threw a baby shower dinner party for my sweet friend, Kayla, a few weeks ago, and it ended up being my favorite baby shower ever. No stupid games, no favors, nothing. Just a bunch of friends getting together to eat and chat and laugh, and, of course, celebrating the baby mama.

The amazing Melissa from Ian and Lola (one of my sponsors over on my sidebar this month!) designed the gorgeous invitations for us. She was super speedy, and worked through several different design ideas until we came up with this fun outdoor/floral/twinkle lights idea which was perfect for this shower. if you’re looking for a designer, definitely look up Ian and Lola — she’s so reasonably priced and obviously does an amazing job! Thanks again for the gorgeous invitations, Melissa!

My little backyard patio is the most perfect place for a cozy dinner party, and with the lights still strung up from my baby’s first birthday back in October, it created a special and festive ambiance. Chelsea (who threw the shower with me) and I decorated the tables with pretty burlap and lace runners, white dishes, and mason jars with patterned paper straws. For the centerpieces we used glitter covered mason jars filled with babies breath and red roses, and stacked them on some old books. We kept the color palette really simple (white and red, with a few hints of mint), which turned out really pretty, I think.

We made a simple Italian dinner with lasagna and chicken alfredo, with bread, salad, and caprese for an appetizer, and then Chelsea’s mom made a gorgeous vanilla and lavender cake, which we served with strawberry ice cream, for dessert.

Although it required a bit of set up, the overall shower was so easy to pull off and came out so perfectly, and it was the most fun I’ve ever had at a shower. I’m pretty sure after this I’ll never be able to go back to a normal baby shower, and yes, I’m already planning my next baby shower dinner party!
