This week I whipped up another anthropologie inspired tee. I’m attending a sewing blogger event this weekend with a bunch of other blogging seamstresses from around the country, and since we’ll be walking the LA fabric district all day on Friday, it seemed like the perfect comfy and pretty top to wear.

One of the unexpected perks of blogging for me has been blogging events. I have only attended a few, but I’ve been surprised at how much I’ve loved meeting other bloggers. Surrounding myself with a bunch of like-minded and creative women is so fun, and I always walk away feeling inspired, and this weekend is sure to be no different.  Also, a huge thank you to the wonderful sponsors of Fabric Weekend 2013 — two of which are two of my favorite stores to shop fabric!

I visited Michael Levine when I went to the Fabric District for the first time in Fall 2011, and it’s seriously amazing, and is definitely a staple in the LAFabric District. Between their main store, the upholstry fabric store and the Loft where you can buy fabric by the pound (which is the coolest), you will always walk away with bags of fabric you can’t wait to use. Check out their online brand too —!

Before I moved to Huntington Beach, the LA Fabric District was clearly not a fabric shopping option, so my go-to has always been Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft. The selection is obviously not even close to the size of the Fabric District, but they always have good fabrics and great coupons that make their fabric very reasonably priced!

I’ve started compiling a list of fabrics that I want to pick up while I’m in LA this weekend, and can’t wait to show you the projects that come from those fabrics!

  • I'm loving these shirts! I am going to have to try one….and I'm excited for all of you headed off to your shopping weekend! Have fun!

  • that tshirt is so fun — it's like a mullet with a party in the back! looks great on you! xo

  • I like this one as much as the first one! The fabric you chose is great.

  • Love it! You rocked it again…that print is adorbs!! =)

  • I love the pattern you picked for this tee. and I am SO jealous you will be walking the fabric district on Friday with other bloggers… I might go stalk you guys… Ok, I really won't, but I seriously do admire you and other bloggers that come up with these amazing sewing tutorials. Can't wait to see what you bring back. I really do need to plan a trip there though, It's only like 20 miles away from me, I don't know what I'm waiting for.

  • I love the fabric on the back of the shirt, it really makes the shirt pop! I can't wait to try this out for myself, thanks for the inspiration!

  • do you have a link to the fabric on joann's website?

  • Hey Merrick, just wondering what type of fabric you have used for these tee diy's- is it cotton, jersey, linen? Thanks so much for all you share on your blog, I just love seeing/reading/putting it all to use!

    • Both of the Anthropologie tee's I've shown on my blog so far are made with rayon fabric (see the link in the comment above for the exact fabric I used). I have one more that I plan to make and the fabric is a cotton knit. I think pretty much any fabric would work!

    • Thanks so much!!

  • I am obsessed with this tee! I made my own, you kindly commented on it on Instagram and I think it is my favourite thing. I too want to make a couple more. Cris x

  • Cute outfit! Can't wait to meet you!

Cute tee, I like the floral fabric ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Love. this. top. You are a stunner, lady!

  • I love your blog! So many great projects I want to try now, this top is cute as!

  • I can't imagine sifting through all that fabric! I get overwhelmed at just my JoAnn Fabrics…
Hope you had a blast! Can't wait to see your spoils!

  • I had a question about sewing with these fabrics. I made a shirt like this using your tutorial and it was tough! I used a very lightweight cotton fabric for the back and had so much trouble with the fabrics bunching and catching. Do you use and special tricks or settings on your machine? Or starch your material? I find the t-shirt material to be really hard to work with.

    • Rachel — try a knit needle. They're thinner than a regular sewing machine needle and as soon as I switched to using that type of needle on my machine I had no trouble with bunching. Hope that helps!

  • Your outfit is simple and neat one.I liked your outfit very much.Amazing pictures!!!!
