Summer Stripes

The other evening a group of girls from church got together to do a little sewing group. Leanne, from Elle Apparel, just so happens to go to our church and agreed to teach all of us to make this darling dress. The evening mostly consisted of Leanne demonstrating, and then there was a little time afterward for us to cut out our pieces.

I was pretty sure that I would never finish this dress since I'm known for starting projects and never finishing them (something that drives poor Philip crazy). But miracle of miracles, I sat myself down all day yesterday and pumped this dress out.

[top is from Cozy in Provo, and yellow striped cotton is from Fabric.com]

I LOVE how it turned out. So light and summery, and probably the most comfortable item of clothing I've ever worn.

And if you want to make your very own summer dress, head on over to Leanne's blog...cause she's got a nice tutorial.

  12. I LOVE your dress. I popped over from Leanne's blog. I was trying to figure out how you attached the waist band bow. If you could let me know that would be great! Thanks!

  13. @Holly, the waistband is made of two pieces of fabric (a front and a back). Each sash piece is also made of two strips of fabric sewn together and turned right side out. When I went to sew the side seams of the waistband together, I pinned the sash pieces in between the front and back pieces of the waistband (one on each side, obviously), and then sewed the side seams. Then once the waistband was turned right side out, the sash was coming out of that side seam that was just sewn.

Does that make sense? If it doesn't, email me at merricksart@gmail.com and I'll explain more in depth.

If you're making this dress, good luck!
